Parent Resources

Practical help for supporting your child at home.

Reading at Home

Reading together every day, even for fifteen minutes, does more for literacy than almost anything else. Let your child choose sometimes, and talk about what you read.

Homework

A quiet place, a set time and no phone. Your job is to check it happened and ask what was difficult — not to do it.

Examination Preparation

Short, regular revision beats long sessions the night before. Past questions under timed conditions build confidence.

Supporting Learning

Ask specific questions — "what did you learn in science?" rather than "how was school?" — and let your child explain it back to you.

Child Development

Sleep, food and routine affect learning more than parents expect. A tired child cannot concentrate, however able they are.

Digital Safety

Keep devices in shared spaces, know which apps your child uses, and talk about what to do if something online makes them uncomfortable.

Talking About School

Children share more when they are not being interviewed. Car journeys and mealtimes work better than sitting them down.

Working With Teachers

Contact the school early when something changes at home or you notice a problem. Early is always easier than late.

Every child is different. If something here does not fit your child, talk to their teacher — that conversation is usually more useful than any general advice.
